I bought this to replace my QuadLock mount... nothing wrong with the QuadLock which was very good, but I'd had several failures on supposedly ruggedised and very expensive cables when plugging phone to bike and when cables got wet. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I figured this permanently wired induction charging system might solve this problem... and it does, very well!
I found mechanical fitment to the bike solid, and fine adjustment enabled very accurate phone positioning. Design, materials, and build quality are excellent as you'd expect from MotoGadget.
Phone mounting mechanism is secure and allows for phone vibration damping. Phone lock-on & release mechanism is a very clean & clever design that avoids use of an 'external' lock & release lever, unlike QuadLock.
Phone lock-on & release is easy with positive engagement / disengagement. Impressive design.
Overall, and so far, I'm very pleased with this device. Seems rugged enough for motorcycle use (even though it's still summer), it charges my iPhone correctly, and the phone case allows induction charging on my Apple induction charger. This is unlike the QuadLock phone case that didn't... I was having to remove & replace the phone case everyday which was annoying... this system avoids this and is a second major benefit over the QuadLock system.
My only disappointment with this was that it comes with a female USB-C connector on the end of its permanent cable, and you get a male USB-C to male USB-A cable for plugging between mount and bike. As my bike (KTM 1390 Super Duke R Evo) has a female USB C connector on its dash, I had to buy a short male to male USB-C cable to link the device. This works perfectly well, but it meant trying to discretely hide the lengths of the permanent cable and converter cable (over 400mm of cable) on a naked bike. I initially bought a male to male USB-C adaptor but this didn't work for some reason.
Providing the option to buy this device with a permanent cable fitted with a male USB-C connector would be welcome particularly as USB-A is being superseded by USB-C as a preferred connection method.
However, so far I've been very impressed with this phone mount solution and would certainly recommend it over and above QuadLock for two big reasons:
1) It removes the issue of physically plugging / unplugging your phone where there doesn't seem to be good enough cables on the market to cope with this or wet & cold conditions on a bike.
2) The phone case can stay on your iPhone.
How this all stands up over time I don't know yet, but so far it's done well and it's solve two problems, one expensive, the other annoying. So I'd certainly recommend it for these two reasons alone. Impressive!
